1998 Nissan Frontier Throttle Position Sensor Installation
The throttle position sensor on a 1998 Nissan pickup is utilized to signal to the computer about the actual position of the throttle plate.
The sensor is a potentiometer that directs a .5 volt signal at idle to the computer, progressing smoothly to 5 volts at wide-open throttle.
The computer reads the voltage scale and regulates the EGR opening and the fuel injection duty cycle.
A faulty or out-of-adjustment throttle position sensor will cause a poor idle rpm, rough-running engine, and lack of power.
Let’s go through the 1998 Nissan Frontier throttle position sensor installation.
Installation Method
Raise the hood of the vehicle and remove the air cleaner using a ¼-inch drive, 10 mm socket and ratchet. Disconnect the electrical connector from the side of the throttle position sensor on the passenger side. Remove the two bolts securing the sensor to the throttle body. Lift the sensor off and away from the throttle body.
Install the new throttle position sensor by securing the two bolts. Before tightening the bolts, make sure that the sensor is installed correctly by opening the throttle and feeling for resistance caused by the spring in the sensor. If there is no resistance, take the sensor off and reinstall it. Plug the electrical connector into the sensor, and install the air cleaner.
The procedure for 1998 Nissan Frontier throttle position sensor installation is pretty easy and can be executed on your own to save few dollars spent on the technicians.
